The History of the ACFFL

The Atlantic Coast Fantasy Football League was established in 1998 when several members of a fantasy league operating out of The Road's End Pub in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania decided it was time to start their own league. The league consists of twelve teams whose owners currently reside in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina.  The league might more appropriately be name the Coalcracker or Anthracite League, as all the owners have ties to the Hazleton, West Hazleton and Freeland area of Pennsylvania.

The ACFFL is a "total point" non-keeper league with a modified basic touchdown scoring system. The league's ten founding teams remain members. However, several of these franchises have been renamed through the years.  Two expansion teams, D&Z Express and the Ruff Ryders, were established in 1999, the league's second year. The Freeland Foo Fighters joined in 2001, filling the spot left by the unexpected and saddening departure of the Ruff Ryders.  Please see the Teams page for more information on the individual teams.

In 2001, the ACFFL went "high tech" with the addition of this web site and the discussion board.   The team logos and helmets were added in 2002.

The 2003 season brought a minor rules changes and the institution a new "honor". Lineups would now include a combination of four wide receivers and tight ends compared to the previous three wide receives and one tight end. Also, the team in last place at the end of the season is now responsible for buying the barrel for the next season's draft.  The Snappers had the "privilege" of being the first winner in the "Battle for the Barrel".

The 2006 season marks the first changes in the front office since the league began. Jeff Kozel replaces Joe Pazdon as League Commissioner. Jane PIlkerton steps into the Treasurer position left by Jeff. John Kozel remains Scorekeeper. The "No Boomerang Trades Rule" was instituted as a result of a controversial trade in 2005.
